Counseling for Children
Are you experiencing difficulty with your child’s behavior? Have you observed any of the following: changes in eating or sleeping habits, engaging in destructive behaviors, extreme feelings of sadness and/or worry, isolation from friends and family, increased physical complaints, and/or talks about death or dying?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then Heritage Behavioral Health may be able to help you.
Here at Heritage Behavioral Health & Wellness, we take a collaborative approach with working with the child and parent as a whole. Information is gathered from the parent/guardian and is compared to the concerns of the child as we all work together to achieve the desired social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
Play therapy is a form of therapy utilized for children who may not be able to process their feelings and emotions to the adults in their lives via traditional talk therapy. Research has shown that younger children ages 6-11 respond well to play therapy. With play therapy, clinicians are able to gain insight into issues children may not be able to properly express. It has been proven to assist children in exploring emotions and processing unresolved trauma. Play therapy has helped children develop positive and healthy coping mechanisms aimed at decreasing and/or eliminating undesirable and inappropriate thoughts, behaviors, and actions.
